Arsenal team news as Arteta deals with Aubameyang issue ahead of Leeds United trip

  • by

As it stands, Leeds United’s clash with Arsenal on Saturday is one of the few Premier League games not affect by covid outbreaks in either squad.

Mikel Arteta confirmed in his pre-match press conference that his squad is free of infection from the virus, whilst Marcelo Bielsa gave details of his many injury absences – Daniel James joining the list of 10 injured or suspended first-teamers for the game – but no covid cases were mentioned.

Whilst Leeds are decimated by injuries, the Gunners come into the game in a healthier position squad wise. However, Arteta mentioned his side had a ‘couple of issues’ at the weekend in terms of fitness and they would be assessing players in training today.

Here is a round up of the players ruled out or doubtful for the game at Elland Road:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arteta confirmed that the striker who was relinquished of the club captaincy would continue to be unavailable against Leeds.

Aubameyang scored a hat-trick against the Whites in Arsenal’s 4-2 victory over them last season, however his team has a healthier winning record without him this season.

Gabriel Martinelli

The Brazilian scored Arsenal’s opening goal in their win over West Ham in mid-week but he also had to leave the field with a knock in the second half. He is thought to be one of those who will be assessed today.

Sead Kolasinac

Kolasinac has been ruled out for some time, however he is far down the pecking order at left back, with Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares the preferred options for that role.

Bernd Leno

Leno is another who has been ruled out for a few games and isn’t expected to be available. Even if he were, he was fallen behind Aaron Ramsdale when it comes to the goalkeeper shirt at Arsenal.
