Koch, Bamford, James: Everything we know as Leeds United dealt further injury blows ahead of Arsenal

  • by

Marcelo Bielsa is without eight senior players this weekend as Leeds United host Arsenal at Elland Road in the Premier League.

Leeds were beaten 7-0 by Manchester City on Tuesday evening, with Bielsa’s injury woes worsening on a bleak night.

As things stand, Leeds have around 10 available senior players, with the absentee list a chunky one.

Here, we run you through everything you need to know about the injury problems Bielsa is facing:

Robin Koch

First things first, we’ve got some good news finally on Robin Koch.

The German international has been absent with a pelvic injury since the opening day defeat to Manchester United.

After surgery and recovery, Koch is now available for Leeds’ clash with Arsenal.

Liam Cooper

Cooper picked up a hamstring injury in Leeds’ 2-2 draw with Brentford earlier in the month.

There’s no return date set for the skipper, though he’s expected to miss a long period of football.

Patrick Bamford

Bamford picked up a hamstring injury of his own in that clash with Brentford whilst celebrating his dramatic equaliser.

The striker had previously missed two months through an ankle injury.

It’s not thought that Bamford’s hamstring injury is as serious as Cooper’s, but he’s out of the clash with Arsenal and it’s not clear when he will be fit enough to return.

Rodrigo Moreno

Rodrigo is out with a heel injury, with Leeds confirming recently that they are having to manage his workload carefully.

Whilst the pain remains, Rodrigo will be sidelined, robbing Leeds of their club-record signing.

Daniel James

James was replaced at half-time as Leeds were battered at Man City.

It’s been revealed he’s got a muscle abductor injury, which rules the Wales international out of Leeds’ clash with Arsenal.

Pascal Struijk

Struijk had been struggling with a hip injury across fixtures with Brighton, Crystal Palace and Brentford, but was set to return against Chelsea.

However, two bones collided in his foot, leaving the 22-year-old in pain and unable to be considered for selection.

Like Rodrigo, until that pain lifts, Struijk isn’t going to be available.

Kalvin Phillips

Phillips was the third Leeds player that picked up a hamstring injury against Brentford and, unfortunately, his issue is more like Cooper’s than Bamford’s.

Reports from The Athletic have revealed Phillips has had surgery on his hamstring and is facing a minimum of two months on the sidelines.

Jamie Shackleton

Shackleton picked up an Achilles injury in Leeds’ loss at Manchester City, with the makeshift full-back now facing a period out of the side.

He misses out against Arsenal and it’s not clear when Bielsa will be able to call on him again.

Junior Firpo misses out against Arsenal through suspension. He picked up a fifth yellow card of the season against Man City in the week, landing him a one-match ban.

Raphinha, Tyler Roberts and Diego Llorente, meanwhile, have four yellow cards to their name. They need to avoid bookings against Arsenal and Liverpool to escape a ban of their own.
