Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has revealed the best goalkeepers in the world he looks up to in an interview with Sky Sports.
The young French goalkeeper has suggested that he looks up to goalkeepers like Ederson, Alisson and Manuel Neuer as inspiration.
He has hailed Alisson as an “amazing” goalkeeper while suggesting that Neuer holds the top position on his list.
Leeds completed the signing of Meslier from Lorient on a permanent deal in 2020 and Marcelo Bielsa has kept immense faith in him.
The transition from Championship to the Premier League wasn’t easy, but the Argentine made him the club’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, and he has been absolutely outstanding ever since.
Leeds have made a poor start to the 2021-22 season with the Whites conceding a lot of goals so far. In the absence of three top-quality centre-backs thorough injuries and suspension, Meslier’s task hasn’t been easier this season.
Alisson – perfect role model for him.
In the interview with Sky Sports, Meslier has made another interesting comment. He said that he doesn’t understand why a lot of goalkeepers shout all the time at their defenders, reflecting on his calm and poised nature.
Probably that is why the Frenchman looks up to Alisson as an inspiration. The 28-year-old Liverpool goalkeeper is arguably one of the best in the world, but the Brazilian maintains a low-key profile in the team.
The best part about Alisson’s game is that he keeps it simple. Unlike many goalkeepers who make the routine saves look spectacular, Alisson is not of that kind.
However, there are very few goalkeepers who make decisive saves better than him – saves that can change the course of the game. Alisson has done that time and again for the Reds.
Meslier is improving all the time, and with more experience, he is expected to get even better.
