Leeds United and Cardiff still need to put the finishing touches to the paperwork for Cody Drameh to go out on loan, according to WalesOnline journalist Tom Coleman.
Drameh, 20, is edging towards moving to the Welsh capital on loan until the end of the season with Fabrizio Romano reporting he’ll undergo a medical with the Bluebirds tomorrow (Wednesday).
However, Coleman says the deal isn’t quite done yet after what he was told by sources at Leeds and at Cardiff.
“Sources in West Yorkshire had subsequently speculated that Drameh may yet be kept on to give Bielsa more options ahead of the second half of the season,” said Coleman on the WalesOnline website.
“But while stressing there are still some loose ends to tie up on the deal, club insiders are increasingly hopeful that the former Fulham academy graduate will make the move to the capital this week.”
Why are Leeds loaning Drameh out?
To put it quite simply – we need him.
Marcelo Bielsa has had to cope with all sorts of injury issues this season and the right-back position hasn’t been immune to those problems.
It may be as simple as throwing Stuart Dallas in at right-back – but what if he’s needed at left-back? Junior Firpo went off injured on Sunday at West Ham. And Jamie Shackleton’s another option there. Where’s he currently? Oh, he’s also injured.
Luke Ayling is also needed at centre-half sometimes, meaning that loaning out Drameh makes little sense and could really cause a lot of problems for us if our injury issues do not get any better.
Drameh needs a loan spell away from Elland Road but we don’t see why that can’t wait until a new right-back is signed or is done in the summer.
