Contrasting Raphinha update emerges as Leeds United strap in for transfer saga

  • by

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that he isn’t totally sure Raphinha is going to extend his contract at Leeds United.

With the transfer window now open, speculation regarding Leeds’ Brazil international, Raphinha, was always going to build.

Reports of an agreed move to Bayern Munich briefly scared fans before being shut down.

The YEP reported shortly after this claim of Raphinha’s move to Bavaria that he was in fact in talks over a new contract at Leeds.

This has been followed up by Italian journalist Nicolo Schira claiming that the player is in advanced talks to pen a new deal, significantly increasing his wages in the process.

However, that’s not the inkling that transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano is getting from the situation.

Speaking on the latest edition of his Here We Go podcast, he had this to say on the 25-year-old:

“Raphinha from Leeds to Bayern was a fake news because it was never a done deal between the clubs.

“Keep an eye on other English clubs for summer. English clubs are interested in Raphinha and I’m not so sure he’s going to extend his contract with Leeds.”

I was never worried about Bayern’s interest because that’s one place I don’t think they need to strengthen this month.

As for his new deal, it’s a tricky one because I think Raphinha has proven he can achieve his goals here, given that he’s likely to be in the World Cup squad this year.

We can’t say that he doesn’t have club ambitions beyond Leeds, but his commitment to the cause here speaks for itself.

Leeds won’t be holding him hostage if he signs a new contract, but it just secures himself and the club financially, should a bid come in.
