David Anderson details Kalvin Phillips behind-the-scenes stance at Leeds amid contract talk

Kalvin Phillips believes Leeds United are meeting his footballing ambitions at the moment, according to The Mirror journalist David Anderson.

The England international midfielder, 25, has been linked with several teams in recent months, but he is close to penning an extension at Elland Road.

Phillips has three more years left on his current deal, but he is set to be offered better terms given his impact since the club returned to the top-flight last summer.

Anderson posted on his personal Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

He said: “Kalvin Phillips is ready to sign a new deal at Leeds.

“He loves the club, is happy there and feels he is achieving all his football ambitions with them.

“His current deal runs until 2024 and talks on new, improved terms will begin soon.”

Statement of intent

Leeds need to hold on to their most important players going forward if they are to achieve their dreams of playing European football anytime soon, and Phillips remains crucial to the plans of Marcelo Bielsa.

Manchester United are the latest club to have registered interest in the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’, with the Daily Star reporting earlier this week that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made signing a defensive midfielder his number one priority in next summer’s transfer window.

They want the Whites ace after abandoning their interest in West Ham United’s Declan Rice, but it appears he is not going to be tempted.

While there is a chance to win silverware and play regular Champions League football at Old Trafford, Phillips is patient and willing to wait at Leeds.

They have started the new season woefully, with just three points in six games, but the potential to become European regulars is there after they finished last term in ninth place – three points off the Europa Conference League spot.

The Whites will be making a statement of intent by keeping Phillips, and fans will be eagerly looking forward to an announcement.

In other Leeds United news, Whites ace has been made the No.1 priority as billionaire-owned club plot transfer raid.
