Fabrizio Romano shares what Tottenham have informed Leeds about Raphinha

Fabrizio Romano reports that Tottenham have told Leeds United they plan to bid for Raphinha and a move could be made for the Brazilian this week.

Writing on The Guardian website on Wednesday (22 June), Romano reported that while Arsenal have seen their opening bid for the 25-year-old winger rejected, Spurs are planning an offer of their own and that it could arrive in the coming days.

It is understood that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has also “explored the situation” while Barcelona agreed personal terms with Raphinha month ago.

Romano claims that Barca are only willing to pay around £35million to £40million for the former Rennes and Sporting CP winger but Leeds want at least £65million.

It’s going to happen, isn’t it?

We’d be deluded if we sat here and expected Raphinha to stay at Leeds and that he would turn down moves to Tottenham or Arsenal.

It’s strange that Spurs would be so keen to splash the cash on Raphinha when they have a front-three that performs very well in Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.

However, they’re going to be in the Champions League in the 2022/23 season so they might want the extra depth or simply an extra option who can compete with Kulusevski for a spot in Antonio Conte’s attack.

Raphinha might be more receptive to a move to Arsenal because he’s more likely to get game-time there but the big aim for the Brazilian is to play in the Champions League.

He will get that at Spurs and you’d assume that he’d be more likely to get that on a consistent basis over the years as long as top players like Kane and Son stick around.

We don’t see him going to Barcelona now because what they’re offering for Raphinha is insulting.

There’s a good chance the ex-Rennes star will be in North London – or at least some part of the capital city – by the time this transfer window closes.
