‘Get it done’ – Reports of Leeds United agreement being pursued has these fans buzzing

  • by

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is reportedly open to begin discussions over a new contract as Manchester United look to kick up their interest.

Leeds have plenty of individual talent in their side at the moment and with that comes the prospect of ‘elite clubs’ swooping in and paying top dollar to tempt them elsewhere.

In Kalvin Phillips, Leeds boast one of the best holding midfielders in the league with attributes that would see him fit into almost any team in the league.

He showed those qualities on the elite stage in Euro 2020 as he helped England to a runners-up medal, and there are clubs starting to circle for his signature.

As it was revealed earlier via the Daily Star, Manchester United have prioritised Phillips as their key holding midfield target after turning their back on Declan Rice.

This has now been swiftly following by claims from 90min that both Leeds and Phillips are eager to begin talks over a deal that would see him become one of the club’s highest earners at around GBP70,000-a-week.

Leeds fans were already nonplussed by interest from the wrong side of the Pennines, but this update is much better news for them…

The message is plain and simple: get this contract sorted.

Phillips still has time left on his deal but the longer he’s not paid as if he’s the best player (like he should be), then he’ll start to question why he’s here.

If we match the ambition of himself and look to build around him, it’ll convince him this place is worth staying at long-term.

There’s no denying he will go on to play in Europe later in his career, but as Declan Rice is showing at West Ham, there’s scope for him to do it with us under the right guidance.
