Leeds United are out of the relegation zone after securing their first Premier League win of the campaign at Watford’s expense on Saturday.
The Whites were in 18th place in the table heading into matchday 7, and the 1-0 victory at Elland Road definitely came at the right time ahead of the international break.
Leeds fought hard for all three points and should have scored more goals after Diego Llorente’s 18th-minute opener.
The visitors came close to equalising, though, after Illan Meslier dropped a clanger, but they had their goal ruled out due to a foul in the build-up.
The French goalkeeper, 21, is a relieved man after the win, taking to his personal Instagram account after the Whites’ first league win in 2021-22 to react.
He said: “I told you it was coming.”
Drawing three and losing the other three of their opening six games of the campaign almost got the alarm bells ringing at Elland Road.
Leeds have not gone that long without a win in a long while, and they could not afford to head into the break on an uninspiring note.
They needed to turn a corner quickly, and Marcelo Bielsa will sincerely hope that has happened now.
The Whites almost ended up dropping two points as they were not clinical enough, and a lot of things have to change after the break.
The return of Llorente handed them a huge boost, and they need Patrick Bamford and Robin Koch back after the break.
Injuries have not helped Leeds, and Bielsa could do with a fully fit squad when action resumes.
The Whites travel to Southampton after the break before games against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Norwich City, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Having faced some tough opponents, Leeds now have some easier fixtures on paper, and they can continue from where they stopped in a fortnight.
In other Leeds United news, Simon Jordan has suggested Whites player should be block from int’l duty by PL.
