Jesse Marsch shares what he told Joe Gelhardt before subbing him on in Leeds win v Norwich

Jesse Marsch has praised young Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt, saying he is a “quality” player.

The 19-year-old scored the winner in the 94th minute as Leeds picked up crucial three points against Norwich City on Sunday (13 March) at Elland Road.

It was the Whites’ first victory under Marsch and the manner of the win must have pleased Marsch.

March said about Gelhardt, as quoted by Leeds Live: “I don’t think Joffy will ever forget that either. Got quality.

“Asked him to play as a 10 and pick up second balls. Don’t worry about set-pieces, just get in the game. Not the time for every detail but a big moment for all of us.”

Bright future

It was a thrilling end to the contest at Elland Road.

Gelhardt was only on the pitch for less than two minutes
after he came on as a substitute.

However, he turned into a hero shortly after hitting the net
from Raphinha’s assist.

It was a hammer blow for the Canaries. Dean Smith felt they had levelled the tie through Kenny McLean when he scored in the injury time.

Rodrigo scored the opening goal for Leeds. Under Marsch, the
Whites look pretty solid at the back compared to what they were under Marcelo
Bielsa, and it seemed enough that the goal will end their miserable of six
games without a win.

Ideally, Leeds should have scored more. Raphinha appears to have got his mojo back as he twice struck the bar, while Daniel James was once again guilty for not taking his chances properly.

In other Leeds United news, Norwich’s coaches were “incensed” by a controversial incident in the Leeds game, a Sky Sports pundit claims.
