Leeds United have been confirmed to have sent a scout to be in attendance as Benfica humbles Barcelona 3-0 on Wednesday night.
The transfer window may be shut, but it’s quite clear that Leeds could do with some extra recruitment in the upcoming window.
As Leeds missed out on key targets in August, the lack of depth in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad is become apparent as he deals with injuries across the board.
Victor Orta will be hard at work as he compiles a potential shortlist of candidates that the club could swoop for as we head towards January.
There’s a long way to go but having these players in sights as early as possible helps formulate an approach.
As Champions League football got underway this midweek, it has been revealed that the Benfica-Barcelona clash had a plethora of scouts from across Europe in attendance, with Independent journalist Melissa Reddy confirming Leeds United’s involvement:
There is no suggestion as to who these clubs were taking a look at, but 22-year-old forward Darwin Nunez certainly caught the eye with a brace in only his third Champions League appearance.
It can only be mere speculation at this point as to who Leeds were watching, but there could be a few in Leeds’ sights.
Nunez looks like the obvious shout given his age, but let’s not forget that Leeds poached Junior Firpo from Barcelona this summer and they won’t be finished in terms of selling players.
There weren’t many in that starting lineup that would be in our pride bracket but it’s worth having a look at who could be.
It’ll be interesting to see if our scouts pop up anywhere else in the coming weeks.
