Junior Firpo tweets instantly as Joe Gelhardt scores last-gasp winner for Leeds v Norwich

  • by

Leeds United did their hopes of surviving relegation from the Premier League this season a huge favour as they beat Norwich City 2-1.

The Whites had the lead early on thanks to Rodrigo but it looked like the Canaries had stolen a point from Yorkshire when Kenny McLean drew them level on 90 minutes.

But Leeds are never beaten and teenager Joe Gelhardt sent Elland Road into raptures with a 95th-minute winner, his second goal of the season.

Junior Firpo was ruled out of the game through injury but watched on from afar and couldn’t contain his delight at Gelhardt’s last gasp goal, posting a number of heart-eyed emojis on his personal Twitter account seconds after the ball thundered into the back of the net.

It was Jesse Marsch’s first win as Leeds United manager and it goes a very long way to easing those relegation concerns after Everton suffered defeat at the hands of Wolves.

Huge result

Norwich might be the weakest side in the division but Dean Smith has instilled some fight and belief into those players.

They never stopped giving it a go all afternoon long and they must have thought they had done enough when McLean scored.

Not if Leeds have anything to do with it though! Gelhardt has deserved this kind of moment after a number of impressive displays at such a young age.

Had they been unable to find that winner in stoppage time, it would have looked a very precarious position to be in for Marsch’s Leeds given Watford’s win at Southampton.

Things are still not comfortable by any stretch of the imagination for the Whites but they can at least rejoice in a first Premier League win in eight since they won at West Ham.

In other Leeds United news, we’ve rated one player at a dismal 4/10 from today’s game while the man of the match scored 8/10.
