Leeds United hosted Norwich City today (Sunday 13 March) but there was one less supporter in the ground as a result of a rather embarrassing mistake.
Former Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield, who now works on West Brom’s media team, reported on his personal Twitter account that one of his friends’ dads, who supports the Whites, had turned up outside Carrow Road, the home of the Canaries, ready for the game.
Unfortunately for him, the game actually took place some three and a half hours north at Elland Road meaning he missed the game entirely.
That poor soul isn’t the first to make a huge blunder like this and surely won’t be the last either but that doesn’t stop it from being rather hilarious to those who didn’t make the error.
You’d imagine that almost everyone has accidentally gone to the wrong road at some point in their lives.
But those cases are usually right next to each other and just a quick trip around the corner.
Confusing Elland Road with Carrow Road is another level entirely and it must be quite a big corner for the three and a half hour trip between the two.
You can’t begin to imagine what he might be thinking as they drive back to wherever he came from having not seen the game he was hoping to.
Maybe there is something to do in Norwich instead but we all know where he would rather be and that empty seat in LS11 has quite the story behind it.
The rest of the Elland Road faithful certainly made up for his absence against the Canaries at one of the country’s great grounds for atmosphere.
