Leeds sensation agrees 3-year deal to join club with stadium bigger than Elland Rd – Sky journo

Goalkeeper Elia Caprile is set to leave Leeds United to join Italian Serie B club Bari on a permanent basis, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Writing via his personal website on Tuesday (21 June), the Sky Sports Italy journalist reported that Caprile, 20, has agreed to sign a three-year deal with Bari, who were promoted as Serie C Group C winners in 2021/22.

Caprile spent the last season on loan at Pro Patria, who also played in Serie C but in Group A.

Caprile’s stay at Leeds has been short and sweet.

He played 18 times in Premier League 2 for the Whites’ Under-23s to help them win the Premier League 2 Division 2 title in 2020/21.

However, he never managed to get a game for the senior side despite getting onto the substitutes’ bench five times in Marcelo Bielsa’s only full Premier League season at Elland Road.

Caprile’s time at Leeds never seemed as though it was going to be long with the Verona-born Italian looking like another one of those infamous European imports by Victor Orta who never made it in Yorkshire.

Caprile, a former Italy Under-18 international, joined from Chievo in January 2020.

He was mooted as being one for the future but instead, after just over two years on the books at Leeds, he’s off to join a club that’s just been promoted to Italy’s second-tier.

Of course, it’s a step up from Pro Patria and Bari are a very big club in Italy.

Bari’s stadium, Stadio San Nicola, is the fourth-biggest in Italy with a capacity of over 58,000 and the Pulia-based club had to get out of a tough Serie C group boasting the likes of Catania and Palmero to get promoted.

We wish Elia all the best at Bari.
