Leeds United fans have mixed views on Chris Wood’s imminent Newcastle United move

Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of ex-Leeds United Chris Wood from Burnley for a fee in the region of ?20 million.

The Magpies have been keen on signing a summer since the opening of the January window following the serious injury that Callum Wilson picked up against Manchester United last month.

Wood has hit double figures for goals in each of his four seasons at Burnley but has struggled to replicate the form so far this term.

He has found the net just three times in 17 matches, but Eddie Howe will be hoping he can re-find his goal scoring touch at St. James’ Park.

Should Newcastle complete the deal in the next ten days, Wood will return to Elland Road for the second time in just three weeks, after Burnley were defeated 3-1 earlier this month.

Here is how Leeds fans have been reacting to the news of their former striker’s January move from one of their rivals to another.

@noel33330: “Chris Wood is a rare old style English forward who I’d love back at #lufc. I am not surprised #nufc have gone for him and don’t get the hate I’m reading.”

@LUFC1992_v2: “Chris Wood got subbed at ER a few weeks back, wonder how he’ll do next week?”

@EastStandUpper: “One of those deals that doesn’t look great for anybody… apart from Chris Wood.”

@silkyjohn30: “Chris Wood jumping ship for the money… who would’ve thought it?

@WainmanJoe: “This Chris Wood deal is a mad one for me. It weakens Burnley, and then I’m not sure he improves Toon all that much, so it’s a win-win for me.”

@EL94HotW: “Can’t lie, ?20m for Chris Wood is not my idea of good business on Newcastle’s part. He’s not exactly been smashing it for Burnley.”

@xstesmith: “I might be in the minority, but I think ?20 million for Chris Wood is a good deal. I’ve always rated him since he was at Leeds. Weakens a relegation rival and that’s the price for a 10 goal a season striker nowadays.”

@gurucox: “Chris Wood enroute to Newcastle for medical, Newcastle have met release clause thought to be 20mil, wonder if we put a clause in… knowing Leeds probably not.”
