Leeds United player’s Elland Road exit draws closer as medical scheduled

Cody Drameh will have a medical with Cardiff City tomorrow ahead of a six-month loan move from Leeds United.

Leeds are fielding Championship interest in Drameh after they crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday, with Cardiff leading the race to sign the 20-year-old.

Despite a crippling injury crisis at Elland Road, it appears that Leeds are ready to loan out the right-back for the remainder of the season.

As per Fabrizio Romano, who broke the story regarding Drameh on Sunday night, Leeds are set to give the youngster’s move the green-light.

Romano reports that a medical is scheduled for tomorrow, with Drameh set to join Steve Morison’s side in the Championship on a straight loan deal, with no option to buy included.

Drameh has made five appearances for Leeds’ first-team this season, including three in the Premier League.

He started last month’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal and most recently stepped off the bench in the FA Cup as Leeds lost out to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

This is a transfer that comes with an element of risk.

Leeds are low on bodies and have been having to lean on Drameh to pad out a very thin squad in the Premier League.

Injuries have heightened the 20-year-old’s involvement and Leeds are running the risk of leaving themselves short in the period between recovering Jamie Shackleton, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk.

On the flip side, it’s a good opportunity for Drameh to move out on loan and play some minutes. His role at Leeds is to cover the senior players, so his minutes should increase down in the Championship.

Your gut feeling, though, tells you that Leeds are leaving themselves shorter than they need to be by giving this the green-light.

It’s going to be a case of wait and see when it comes to proving if it is the right call.
