Leeds United hopeful of new arrival after Wolves opener as transfer window’s endgame takes shape

Irons remain in the fire on transfer business for Leeds United, but a goalkeeper looks likely to be the next addition at Elland Road. A striker and a left-back have been mentioned as targets by Jesse Marsch too, but a back-up stopper is understood to be the next arrival.

The bulk of United’s business was done before the squad flew out to Australia on their pre-season tour with Charles De Ketelaere the target left to chase. When Junior Firpo was struck down by injury and it became clear Leif Davis was not quite ready, Marsch admitted a left-back was a consideration for the club too.

Since the return from Australia it became increasingly clear De Ketelaere was set for AC Milan, Firpo’s return date rapidly emerged on the horizon and Pascal Struijk settled in as the club’s left-back stop-gap. All the while, stretching back to January, a back-up goalkeeper has been a possibility for the Whites.

Illan Meslier remains the undisputed number one at Elland Road, while Kristoffer Klaesson impressed in his one appearance at Molineux last term, but he picked up an issue behind closed doors on Saturday. That problem has escalated the move for a second-choice stopper and one could arrive at Leeds next week.
