Leeds United have finally picked up their first Premier League victory of the new season, bagging a 1-0 win against Watford on Saturday.
Diego Llorente scored 18 minutes into the game from Raphinha’s corner, and while an error from Illan Meslier in the second-half almost proved costly, the visitors had their goal chalked off for a foul in the build-up.
Raphinha, 24, was one of the best players on the pitch, and former Whites star Jermaine Beckford was blown away by his performance.
The ex-Leeds striker said on BBC’s Final Score during the game: “Raphinha has been excellent, every time he picks the ball up he looks like a livewire.”
The Brazilian attacker was not credited with an assist and could not get on the scoresheet, but he put in an electric shift and was a constant thorn in the flesh for Watford.
Leeds should have scored more, but that did not happen despite Raphinha’s solid effort in the final third.
He has earned invitations to the Brazilian national team during the last two call-ups, and his display at Elland Road this evening proved why.
With three goals in seven appearances, the Whites ace has had a solid start to 2021-22, and he will look to get better.
He inspired Leeds to a much-needed victory heading into the international break, and the result has brought huge relief to the club, fans and players.
After missing out on last month’s World Cup qualifiers due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions, he will be hoping he can get the chance to make his debut for Brazil this month and show what he is capable of doing at international level.
With his performance against the Hornets at Elland Road, Raphinha should not have any problems convincing Brazil manager Tite of his quality.
In other Leeds United news, Simon Jordan has suggested Whites player should be block from int’l duty by PL.
