Barcelona look set to miss out in the race to sign Raphinha from Leeds United as they are nearing a contract agreement with Ousmane Dembele.
Leeds have been fielding interest in Raphinha for some time now, with his international exploits with Brazil bringing him to the forefront of multiple clubs’ attention.
Barcelona have seemingly been the front-runners for some time, but recent developments have pushed them well down the order.
Not only are Barcelona suffering from huge financial complications at the moment, but they have an in-house problem on the right-wing that has needed solving for some time.
Ousmane Dembele’s contract was due to expire this summer and interest in Raphinha seemed like acceptance that the Frenchman was going to depart for nothing.
However, the situation has since been completely flipped on its head with Barcelona now looking set to announce a fresh contract extension with the winger – via Diario AS’ Javi Miguel:
What that means for Leeds is that constant flirting from the Nou Camp club is likely to come to an end as they fail to come even close to Leeds’ ?65million asking price.
That should surely end the tedious links to Barcelona when we know they cannot afford Raphinha.
This whole saga has stunk of an awful sense of entitlement we’ve not seen from them since the Super League nonsense.
They are still a hugely prestigious club, but they cannot compete with the financial clout of clubs in the Premier League, and need to accept that.
I’m confident that with domestic sides eager, we will get a substantial fee for him.
