Phil Hay delivers clear update on Leeds United pursuit of January signings

Leeds United have yet to make any ‘firm’ progress in their pursuit of new signings this month.

That’s according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, who does however, say that the club are working to try and bring in new recruits for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

With injuries significantly contributing to a challenging season for Leeds so far, it does seem as though January recruits will be crucial to the Whites’ prospects for the second half of the season.

So far however, there have yet to be any first-team signings made by the Leeds this month, with it now almost two weeks since the window opened.

While things have also been quiet in terms of outgoings so far, it does appear that one departure is imminent, with right-back Cody Drameh seemingly set to join Cardiff City on loan.

But despite that temporary exit for the 20-year-old, who has made five first-team appearances this season, it seems Leeds are still some way from bringing in any players of their own.

Providing an update on the club’s search for new signings in the wake of Drameh’s loan move, Hay wrote on Twitter: “Story here: Cody Drameh set to join Cardiff on loan. Work on-going on incomings at Leeds but no firm progress yet.”

This feels like something of a concern for Leeds.

There is of course, plenty of time remaining for the club to make signings in the current transfer window, so in that sense, there is no need to panic.

However, you feel Leeds would be better off bringing any new recruits in as soon as possible. That way, they have a much time as they can to adapt to their new surroundings and reach Bielsa’s notorious fitness standards.

That would then give those players the best chance of making an impact in games, so you feel the pressure could be mounting on the club when it comes to getting players in.
