Phil Hay: Leeds to complete yet another major signing on Monday, to be available v Southampton

  • by

Joel Robles is reportedly set to be signed in time so that he will be available for Leeds United when they take on Southampton.

According to the Athletic journalist Phil Hay, he will undergo his medical in time to train ahead of the game which is on August 13.

His signing will be completed on Monday and he will join on a free transfer after his four-year deal at Real Betis ended at the end.

Great backup

Kristoffer Klaesson was signed last summer as backup to Illan Meslier but he did not really enjoy the best season with the Under-23s.

It does take time for foreign players to adapt to life in the Premier League so we’re not really judging him too harshly for it.

However, being the number two may be a step too early for him in his career and he could be set out on loan this season.

This would be better for him and would also see Meslier getting a more experienced understudy.

Number ones do learn a lot from their number twos and we expect the Frenchman to become a better keeper in the coming years.

He will also come in with Premier League experience, having been on Everton’s books for five seasons so he’s more than ready to fill in the number one shoes.

Hopefully, there are no further haggles and this deal gets over the line as soon as possible.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
