Alan Nixon has mooted Financial Fair Play trouble at Leeds United midway through the January transfer window this month.
The Sun journalist was quizzed by fans after Football Insider reported that the Whites can only complete loan moves in this window.
Nixon has reported in the past 24 hours that Leeds have £15million to sign a midfielder, and insinuated that it could have been more.
One fan, Archie, asked: “You said we have £15m for a midfielder, but what’s this about us being close to FFP?”
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Nixon responded to fan concern on the FFP news breaking this morning.
“That’s probably why it’s just 15,” he wrote.
This is a real problem for the Whites, who may have splashed their cash for this season on Dan James in the summer.
Andrea Radrizzani has been backed by the 49ers Enterprise, who are nearing majority investor status and can pump cash into transfers.
That looks as though it may be a struggle this season, and we may need to wait until the summer.
Loans with an option to buy may be the way forward, and it may make sense with no guarantee that Marcelo Bielsa will be at Elland Road past this season.
If a new manager comes in, they may have their own style of play that new signings this month don’t fit into, this all has to be taken into account.
It looks as though this is something that may need to be addressed, and quickly.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared if the Whites are in the ‘advanced’ stages of any January signings
