Report confirms Leeds United set to miss out on forward’s signature

Monaco will beat Leeds United to the signing of Liverpool’s Takumi Minamino this summer.

Leeds are looking to bolster Jesse Marsch’s squad this summer and there looks set to be another forward added to their roster.

However, it does not look like it will be Minamino, who is leaving Liverpool.

As per a report from GOAL, Minamino is bound for Monaco in a deal that could be worth up to EUR18m.

Within that report it’s confirmed that the French club are beating Leeds and Southampton to the signing to the Japan international, who is set to leave England.

Minamino scored 10 goals across all competitions for Liverpool last season, with the bulk of his opportunities coming in the League Cup and then the FA Cup – two competitions that the Reds would go on to win on penalties.

Should Leeds have swooped for Minamino?

Yes

No

There was a strong argument that Minamino would’ve been perfect for Leeds this summer.

He has played under Jesse Marsch before and knows the Leeds head coach’s systems, whilst he’s versatile enough to be flexible within a 4-2-3-1 and 4-2-2-2.

Also, the forward was a fairly cheap addition to target, with his fee not much over ?15m.

So, for Leeds to be missing out on the 27-year-old is disappointing.

Fingers crossed that the alternative the club targets is just as suitable.
