Simon Jordan suggests Leeds player should be block from int’l duty by PL

Simon Jordan has suggested that Leeds United should not allow Raphinha travel to Brazil for October’s international break due to COVID-19 protocols.

The 24-year-old attacker missed the last World Cup qualifiers, sacrificing his maiden call-up to remain in England in order not to miss the Premier League game against Liverpool.

Brazil is a red-list country, and the Leeds ace and others would have to quarantine upon their return if they travel.

Jordan does not want any Brazilian playing in the Premier League to be allowed to travel to Brazil, telling them to opt for another league if they are not comfortable with the current travel restrictions and measures.

The former Crystal Palace owner said on talkSPORT (as shared on their official Twitter account on Thursday): “The simple solution would have been to play these games in neutral countries without the red-list connotation. A neutral country would have been far better because if you’re playing in a red-list country, you’re not playing in front of a significant amount of fans, so you’re not losing your competitive advantage.

“I don’t think the Premier League should allow these players to go. I think the Premier League and the clubs should stand together, rather than say they are going to stand together and then divide and split the moment it becomes hard for one club to deal with their own players.

“I certainly do not think that football should be given the right to have a special dispensation. How about you just don’t go to red-list countries. If you’re Brazilian and you’re playing in England, well, then don’t play in England.

“Go to somewhere else where they pay the ridiculous salaries clubs in England pay. Any reason you’re here is because you’re getting a big bag of money playing in the most competitive league, and that means if you’re Brazilian that has denoted Brazil is a red-list country, that’s just tough.”

Baffling

Tite has called up Raphinha again after he missed the qualifiers against Chile, Argentina and Peru in September, but it remains to be seen whether he will be available to travel and play against Venezuela, Colombia and Uruguay.

While the Premier League have said being vaccinated will be key in players not quarantining after international duty [Daily Mail], handing a massive boost to the Leeds star, that is yet to be implemented.

Liverpool and Manchester City are also facing the same problems, and the Brazilian stars will be hoping a solution can be found soon.

Leaving the Premier League is definitely out of it, and it is a baffling suggestion from Simon.

Raphinha and his countrymen are some of the best players in their position in the top-flight, and the clubs should be looking to find a way out in order to allow them to represent their beloved countries.

The Leeds star will be hoping he does not miss another chance to finally earn his debut, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming days.
