‘Something we can do with’ – Many Leeds United fans spot a case of ‘what if..’ as Marcelo Bielsa dilemma rumbles on

As Leeds United battle on without midfield options, a former academy product is shining in the Championship.

After bringing in a left-back, goalkeeper, and winger this summer, the Whites were still in need of a central midfield.

Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas present the club’s two most ‘natural’ options in those slots, despite the latter converting twice under Marcelo Bielsa to get to this position.

It wasn’t for the lack of trying, though, as not only did the club go for impressive on-loan Crystal Palace man Conor Gallagher, but they also tried their hand at tempting Lewis O’Brien to make the short trip to Leeds from Huddersfield Town.

However, one of the bargain moves of the Championship this season comes in for form of ex-Leeds star Alex Mowatt, who has found his feet superbly at West Brom this season.

10 games into the season, Mowatt has three goals and one assist from the middle of the park after joining the Baggies on a free transfer.

His latest an outrageous strike from outside the box in the 4-0 rout away to Cardiff City:

As he was available in the summer, plenty of fans have been discussing whether we missed a trick in not signing him…

It’s an interesting one, because on the one hand you can easily argue that what he did for us is proof he’d struggle under Bielsa.

However, you have to take into account that Valerien Ismael has helped him become one of the league’s best in a high-intensity style.

We could have done a lot worse in the market than bringing him in, and it wouldn’t shock me at all if he does well in the Premier League, should he be there next season.

We still need a midfielder though and that division is not short of options that would help us greatly.
