Leeds United picked up their first win of the season after beating Watford 1-0 in the Premier League clash on Saturday at Elland Road.
Diego Llorente scored with an instinctive finish in the first half to seal all three points for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Danny Murphy showered praise on Leeds winger Daniel James during the Match Day of the Day show on BBC One.
James started the game in place of Jack Harrison and did well to impress the Match of the Day pundit. Murphy was particularly pleased with his attitude and energy.
“James, he gives them the extra energy and press. He has got superb attitude and desire to do the right things,” said Murphy on MOTD.
“He could have capped off his performance with a goal as well.”
James, the GBP25million summer signing from Manchester United [Sky Sports], is gradually adapting to Bielsa’s methods, and the signs are pretty encouraging.
He showed relentless energy throughout the game and troubled defenders with his pace. He had a penalty appeal turned down, and played a killer pass for Rodrigo in the second half.
He managed two shots during the game and attempted five crosses.
Watford were very poor throughout the game but Leeds should have done better while converting their chances.
The results haven’t gone their way this season, and the victory felt more of a huge sigh of relief for the Whites fans.
Leeds were terrific in the first half. They attacked in numbers in the final third, with Raphinha once again being their central creative force.
James has got all the potential to be a great asset for the club, but he needs to improve in a lot of areas.
While his energy and attitude are top-draw, he needs to focus on his output. James must aim to get into scoring areas and create more chances for his teammates – right now, it’s mostly industry from him.
