Marcelo Bielsa has showered praise on Leeds United winger Raphinha after the Whites earned a 1-0 win in the Premier League clash against Watford on Saturday.
The Whites made a dreadful start to the season, failing to win their opening six games. However, they came back strongly against Watford at Elland Road to pick up their first Premier League win of the season.
Diego Llorente scored the only goal of the match when he scored inside the box with an instinctive finish.
One player who was outstanding during the game was Raphinha, and Bielsa was full of praise for the left-footed Brazilian.
The 24-year-old has scored three goals already this season in the Premier League, but his overall contribution and work ethic have pleased the Argentine.
“Due to standing out he does not demand privileges. All the opposite he takes on more obligations, even more so. That’s why he’s a player that’s valued so much by all of us due to his humility and his capacity of effort. [That’s] Not common when accompanied with that talent.”
Raphinha was simply outstanding during the game, and especially in the first half.
The 24-year-old brings with him pace, bags of trickery, the ability to pick the right passes and create chances with sheer individual brilliance.
Raphinha did all of that against Watford, managing five shots during the game and attempting as many as eight crosses.
Bielsa has revealed the other side of Raphinha and suggests why he is valued so highly in the dressing room. For a player of his calibre, he puts team effort above individual charisma, and his humility has been rightly praised.
Leeds have struggled to match their impressive form of last season, but this victory will give them loads of confidence to go on a winning run after the international break.
