Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford revealed that Marcelo Bielsa teased him after winning his first England call-up.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Times, the 28-year-old revealed how warm Bielsa was with his parents after Gareth Southgate announced that Bamford was part of the England squad last month.
The Leeds striker goes into detail about a lot of aspects of life at Leeds, and we recommend any Whites fan to read this superb interview.
He said: “Marcelo came over and took the mick out of me a little bit, giving not so much congratulations to me but congratulations to Mum and Dad. He was just really nice. My mum really appreciated him coming over and saying well done.”
A lovely moment from Bielsa.
This is lovely to hear from Bamford, and it clearly shows that Bielsa cares deeply about Bamford.
The former Middlesbrough striker is now the top-scoring player under Bielsa in the Argentine’s whole managerial career, and it is clear that he now has a manager who he can trust [transfermarkt].
Before last season, the 28-year-old had scored just one Premier League goal, but he scored 17 and has now been capped by England.
You would have to say that if it weren’t for Bielsa, Bamford would never have made this transformation, and it seems as if they have a great relationship off the pitch as well.
It is just a shame that he is injured at the moment because he doesn’t have the chance to add to his caps until November.
However, hopefully, when he returns, he can get back on the goal trail and help move the Whites up the table.
In other Leeds United news, Kalvin Phillips suggests there will be a change against Watford today.
