Diego Llorente has been overlooked for the Spain squad for the upcoming international break amid his continued Leeds United absence.
Leeds have endured a number of frustrating injury setbacks early on in the 2021/22, Llorente included.
After missing Leeds’ clashes with Manchester United and Everton, Llorente returned against Burnley and Liverpool either side of September’s international break.
However, a fresh muscle injury has kept the Spain international sidelined since then.
Leeds’ clash with Watford this Saturday is the last fixture before the October international break. So, this week, squads are being named.
Spain’s squad reveal doesn’t include Rodrigo Moreno or Llorente, indicating that the Leeds man is not yet fully recovered from his latest muscular injury.
Whether or not Llorente is fit enough to return against Watford remains to be seen, with Leeds’ next fixture after that coming in mid-October when they travel to the South Coast to take on Southampton.
The 28-year-old last featured against Liverpool, when he was replaced in the first-half.
It’s maybe a blessing in disguise that Llorente isn’t in selection consideration for Spain next month.
Leeds could really do with him getting himself fit and up to speed ASAP, with an international call-up not helping that cause.
Watford, you feel, might come too soon for him, but the international break offers him a chance to get fit again for Southampton.
That should be the game that the club are circling for him and a number of others to get themselves right for.
