Leeds United are without a win in six Premier League games ahead of Saturday’s visit of Watford, and they need to turn a corner quickly.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men are 18th in the table after managing to pick up just three points so far, and fans are starting to get nervous seeing their team in the relegation zone.
They have continued to back the team and head coach, though, taking their defeats well, but Phil Hay reckons that could change against Watford if the Whites fail to get a much-needed victory.
Writing on The Athletic website, the journalist provided insight when asked what the mood is like among the fanbase heading into weekend’s game.
He said: “It’s a little tense, as much as anything because Bielsa has not been on a run like this before.
“Leeds have had fairly brief and isolated dips during his reign but as a whole, they’ve been highly impressive for three years — and at no stage has poor form properly set in.
“The crowd at Elland Road were very patient on Saturday, even after West Ham’s late winner, but they are unlikely to be as forgiving against Watford. If a victory is coming, the supporters will expect it to come this weekend.”
Patience to wear thin?
Leeds fans have not witnessed their side go this long without a Premier League victory under Bielsa.
While they will be feeling confident one is very much around the corner heading into the international break, nothing is guaranteed.
The Hornets have two wins and a draw so far, and they have what it takes to condemn the Whites to their fourth defeat of the campaign.
Injuries have not helped the Yorkshire side, with Patrick Bamford still out.
Bielsa will also have to settle for a makeshift defence as a result of knocks to key players in the department, and it could be a tough game for the hosts.
A win ahead of the international break will come as a massive boost and relief, but should they lose, the fans could start demanding answers.
Many pundits have predicted that Leeds would suffer from the second season syndrome heading into 2021-22, and they need to prove them wrong and show they can still grind out victories whilst sticking to their intensive style of play.
