Leeds United will have to do extremely well if they are ever going to sign Erling Haaland.
That’s according to the club’s Director of Football Victor Orta, who says the club have to be realistic about their chances of bringing the striker to Elland Road.
Having scored 68 goals in 67 games for Borussia Dortmund since joining in January 2020, there are few players in higher demand than Haaland in the World right now.
The Norwegian sensation does however, has a connection with Leeds, having been born in the city when his dad, Alf-Inge, was playing for the Elland Road club.
Indeed, Haaland has previously claimed that it is his dream to win the Premier League with Leeds United one day.
But despite that, it seems Orta is keen to keep Leeds feet on the ground with regards to a deal for Haaland, with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG all linked with the 21-year-old.
Asked whether Leeds can dream about the signing of Haaland, Orta told Norwegian outlet Dagbladet: “We can be ambitious, but we also have to be a bit realistic.
“I think that if we meet, it will be because Leeds United have done extremely well. His career is going to be so powerful. So if we ever meet that way, it will be because we at Leeds United have done a lot right.”
You have to feel that for the time being, this is probably a fair assessment from Orta.
With the finances that would be required to do a deal for Haaland, there are clubs who should be able to beat Leeds to his signature at this moment in time.
However, given Haaland’s clear affection for Leeds, it doesn’t seem as though you can rule out him ever pulling on the club’s shirt one day altogether.
Indeed, even if that was to come at the latter stages of the Norwegian’s playing career, that could still be quite some spectacle.
