Leeds United’s reported pursuit of Portugal and Valencia ace Goncalo Guedes is “pure clickbait” according to director of football Victor Orta.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the Whites had shown an interest in the former Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica winger who is likely to leave La Liga this summer.
However in an interview with the newspaper, Orta was quick to shut that story down and insisted there had been no contact or conversations about the player at Elland Road whatsoever.
“The thing about Guedes at Leeds is pure clickbait,” he said.
“I have never spoken with Guedes, nor with his agent nor with Valencia on this subject. There is nothing at all.”
While an attacking addition has been mooted by the club in the striker position, Guedes isn’t a name that has been mentioned by anyone of any note.
It seems that’s for a reason, because Leeds have got zero interest in the player and it’s a non-starter, and that’s straight from the horse’s mouth.
Guedes would have been an exciting addition, with the player’s 2021/22 season his best to date and saw him labelled “exceptional” by journalists for the leadership role he took on.
But Leeds need someone who is reliable and consistent in attack and Guedes simply isn’t that. Orta knows it and that’s why he’s been willing to shut the deal down early.
Noises can stop now with that one, and Orta can hopefully go on to secure the striker we need during this window to complete the squad for the new season as we look to avoid another relegation battle.
